COMMUNITY SPECIAL CONSTABLE FOR MERSEA (Reviewed 19 Dec)

West Mersea Town Council welcomes Community Special Constable Bryant to the Island.
After a lengthy training process, Constable Bryant officially took up his position as our Community Police Officer on 1st November 2022. Some of you may have already seen or met him out on foot patrol, speaking to members of the public, local businesses, and community groups.
Constable Bryant is in discussion with a number of parties in regard to community based initiatives, aimed at making our Island a better and safer place. If you would like SC Bryant to drop by to discuss a concern or simply to say hello, please provide your details to the Council Office and we will be more than happy to pass them on.

Community Special Constables are volunteer police officers, holding the same office and the same powers as regular officers; they wear the same uniform and carry the same equipment and are deployed to the same incidents. Being volunteers, CSCs are not paid but can claim mileage and duty allowances.

"Nottingham Knockers" in West Mersea

Following reports on Mersea of "Nottingham Knockers", who are unlicensed door to door salespersons, the public should be aware that there is a requirement to hold a Pedlar Certificate to carry out such practices legally. In the event of an approach, the public should always ask to see proof of this before considering engaging further with individuals. "Knockers" will often claim to be ex-offenders, associated with a non-existent rehabilitation scheme, to gain a sympathetic ear.
A Pedlar Certificate is issued by the Police and is only valid for 12 months anywhere in the UK. If you are not sure about who you are dealing with, you are encouraged not to engage further, as these practices are often associated with poor quality goods, scamming, and other illegal activities.
Please report any further occurrences to Essex Police on 101 or online: Digital 101 | Essex Police (always 999 in an Emergency).
SC Bryant 81187, Community Constable - West Mersea, Essex Police.
