Mersea Island is connected to the mainland via a causeway which at some high tides becomes completely submerged. Please check the tide times before travelling to Mersea and do not attempt to drive across the causeway when it is under water. This can cause danger to life and the salt water can badly damage your vehicle.

The custom built ferry boat has a ramp allowing easy access for wheelchair users and cyclists as well as foot passengers.
Brightlingsea Foot Ferry will operate a "Dial a Ferry" service in low season - April to October.
"Dial a Ferry" can be booked by calling the Harbour Office before 1pm daily on 01206 302200 or mobile 07981 450169 during operating times.

A Travel app for Essex is launched. A free-to-use sustainable journey planner, the new Travel Essex app helps people in Essex to plan their journeys and travel by foot, bike, bus and train anywhere in the country.

The Mersea Island Lions Community Bus runs as follows:
Every 1st Wednesday of the month, from Mersea to Tollgate Sainsburys/Aldi/M&S/B&Q.
Every 3rd Wednesday of the month, from Mersea to Colchester and ASDA/Dunelm.
Passenger collection starts as 8.30am, return to Mersea at approx. midday.
The Community Bus is driven by volunteer drivers.
